Available as microgreens, in bulk packaging, and in a small pack, our seeds have robust germination rates and produce abundant crops.
Prized for their quick growth, buckwheat seeds originate in Asia, where they have been cultivated for centuries. Spreading to Europe and America, today they’re used as health foods and livestock feed, while also being recognized in other industries. Buckwheat will grow well in USDA hardiness zones 3 to 10. Flourishing even in poor soil conditions, its ability to improve the soil while suppressing weeds is much appreciated.
Sow the seeds directly in the soil in late spring to mid-summer or whenever you need a cover crop to protect your soil. Make sure the plants have 10 to 12 weeks of growth without frost periods. Plant them 1/2 to 1 inch deep, evenly distributing them for cover cropping or in rows for easy harvest. The fast germination rate of a buckwheat seed is astonishing—often beginning within a week. It will take 10 to 12 weeks for the plants to fully mature.
Buckwheat prospers in soils where other crops struggle. It’s a truly low-maintenance plant. Moderate watering is suggested. When grown as a cover crop, buckwheat can be used to restore nutrients to the soil using the “chop and drop” method or by plowing the plant debris back into the soil. If using buckwheat as a green manure, cut it back before plants go to seed to prevent volunteer plants. Often used in organic gardening, this process provides better soil structure and enhances fertility.
Start growing nutritious plants with our buckwheat seeds for planting. Cultivate a crop with multiple benefits. It will enrich your soil for the following season, suppress weeds, and feed your family or livestock.
