Cabbage microgreens are the young seedlings of the cabbage plant. Shortly after the first true leaves develop, they are ready. These microgreens offer all the health benefits of mature cabbage. However, as their nutrients are more concentrated, they provide a more significant wellness boost. Growing cabbage in microgreen form is an efficient way to get fresh produce at your own home. They’re usually added to salads, sandwiches, or cooked dishes straight after harvest.
Sprinkle cabbage microgreen seeds thickly over 1/2-1 inch of moist potting mix in a well-draining shallow container. Press seeds in firmly. Mist the seeds with water, and cover the container to retain moisture and block out light. Keep covered and in darkness for 3-4 days. Mist with water when needed to retain moisture. After a few inches of growth or when microgreens start lifting the cover, expose to direct light. Harvest them with scissors in 8-12 days.
Cabbage microgreens grow fast. They’re ready to be harvested in about 8 to 12 days. These greens require misting from planting to harvest. Providing proper light is pivotal for their strong growth. Harvest cabbage microgreens once they reach 2 to 3 inches in height. Cut them just above the soil, and use them immediately to take advantage of their crisp texture and nutrition.
Growing cabbage microgreens at home is available for anyone. The steady supply of fresh greens will add flavor to your meals and nutrients to your diet. Enjoy micro greens benefits every day, any time of the year.
