Survival Garden Seeds features a curated selection of melon seeds, including honeydew melon seeds and refreshing watermelon varieties. Our non-GMO seeds are carefully chosen, providing many options with excellent germination rates.
Melons have been cultivated in Africa and Asia for centuries. Celebrated for refreshing, sweet flavors, these fruits are filled with nutrients as well. Melons can be produced in USDA hardiness zones 4 to 13, taking full advantage of the warm growing season. Their ability to store water in their flesh allows them to withstand hotter days.
Plant melon seeds directly in the garden space once the soil has warmed up and sow an inch deep in hills or rows. Space plants according to the instructions on your packet depending on the variety of melon you’re growing. Remember, melons need plenty of space for their vines to spread. Typically, seeds will germinate within 7 to 10 days. Consider planting several varieties with different maturation times to secure a continuous supply!
Water melon plants often, especially during dry spells, as plenty of moisture is essential for the vines to develop juicy fruits. Add mulch around the plants to withhold soil moisture. If possible, support the fruits with slings or nets to prevent them from touching the ground. This will help with pest control and produce prettier fruits. Melons are relatively low maintenance but do benefit from monitoring to ensure a healthy crop.
Survival Garden Seeds' melon seeds offer the joy of growing your own delicious, refreshing fruits. From planting to harvest, melons provide a rewarding experience, culminating in the pleasure of tasting your home-grown, sun-ripened melons.
