Known by many names including elf dock, elfwort, and horse heal, Elecampane is an ancient herb with a strong association with fairies and elves in Celtic folklore. The plant is often grown as an ornamental, reaching an impressive 6 feet tall, with broad leaves and branches full of yellow daisy-like flowers. The plant's name comes from the famed Helen of Troy, also known for her beauty. Elecampane's blooms attract hummingbirds, bees, and other pollinators to the flower garden. This robust plant can grow in many soil types, from partial shade to full sun. It prefers mild summers and cold winters and does not do well in hot climates.
- Medicinal Herb - Elecampane is a valuable medicinal herb, harvested for its fragrant root which is added to tea, tinctures, or other herbal treatments to support respiratory issues. No, we do not pre-treat our farmer seeds. All of our garden seeds for sale are untreated, open-pollinated, non-GMO, and heirloom varieties. They are kept in temperature-controlled cooler storage until they are packed and shipped to keep them pest and disease-free.
