What Makes Survival Garden Seeds Different - non-GMO heirloom seeds

Fordhook Lima Bean Seeds from Survival Garden Seeds offer a dependable, productive bush lima bean variety known for its resilience, flavor, and nutritional value. An All-America Selections winner, Fordhook thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, producing a heavy crop of large, lime-green butter beans. These sturdy plants handle heat and dry conditions well, making them a strong choice for a wide range of climates.

Award-Winning Performance and Reliability:
Fordhook is celebrated for its adaptability and drought tolerance, delivering consistent yields even in less-than-ideal weather. Growing to about 20 inches tall, these bush plants require minimal support and are easy to manage in traditional beds or larger containers. Like other legumes, Fordhook lima beans naturally fix nitrogen, enriching the soil and contributing to long-term garden health.

Excellent Flavor, Texture, and Versatility:
The large, flat lima beans are tender and flavorful, making them a favorite for soups, stews, casseroles, or simple side dishes. Pods are easy to shell, and beans maintain their quality whether canned, frozen, eaten fresh, or dried for storage. Fresh beans display a green hue that shifts to a creamy white as they dry, offering flexibility for both immediate use and long-term pantry planning.

Why Customers Love Fordhook Lima Beans:

  • All-America Selections winner known for reliability and strong performance
  • Heavy yields of large, tender butter beans
  • Drought-tolerant plants well adapted to various climates
  • Excellent fresh, canned, frozen, or dried
  • Legume plants help improve soil fertility through nitrogen fixation

How to Grow:
Sow seeds directly outdoors after the last frost once soil has warmed. Choose a sunny location with well-drained soil and water consistently during early growth. As a bush variety, Fordhook requires no trellising. Harvest beans when pods are plump and bright green for fresh use, or allow them to mature fully on the plant if drying.
