Compact, hardy, and easy to grow, ornamental kale adds dependable beauty to beds, borders, walkways, and decorative containers.

Perfect for extending garden interest beyond the summer season, ornamental kale thrives in cool weather, with its vivid colors deepening after frost. These plants offer a durable, low-maintenance way to bring artistry and structure to your fall and winter garden design.

  • Heirloom flowering cabbage – Frilly rosette-style plants in rich pink, purple, and creamy white tones
  • Cold hardy & resilient – Colors intensify after frost for vibrant fall and winter displays
  • Compact and uniform – Ideal for edging, container gardens, and mass plantings
  • Reliable performance – Grows steadily through cool seasons, maintaining structure and color
  • Decorative & adaptable – Pairs beautifully with pansies, violas, and ornamental grasses

Why Gardeners Love Ornamental Kale

  • Extends seasonal color – Keeps beds and containers beautiful long after summer blooms fade
  • Easy to grow – Suitable for beginners and experienced gardeners alike
  • Versatile landscape plant – Adds bold texture and contrast to garden designs
  • Low maintenance – Thrives in full sun to partial shade with moderate watering
  • Trusted quality – Non-GMO, open-pollinated, untreated seeds from a family-owned American seed company

How to Grow

  1. Sow seeds ¼ inch deep in well-drained soil, either directly outdoors in late summer to early fall or indoors 6–8 weeks before your last spring frost.
  2. Transplant seedlings outdoors once temperatures cool.
  3. Spacing: 12–18 inches apart for compact, symmetrical plants.
  4. Light: Full sun to partial shade.
  5. Water: Keep soil evenly moist but not soggy.
  6. Cold tolerance: Frost enhances leaf color intensity.

Seasonal Use

Ornamental kale remains attractive well into winter, even through light frosts and freezes. Use it to fill decorative pots, border garden beds, or add contrast in fall displays for a long-lasting burst of color when most other plants fade.
