Gourds thrive in warm temperatures and require a long growing season, so it is best to plant the seeds after the last frost date in your area when the soil has warmed up.

Choose a well-draining soil that is rich in organic matter. Loosen the soil to a depth of at least 12 inches, and remove any rocks or debris.

If planting directly in the ground, sow the seeds about 1 inch deep and 3 feet apart. If starting indoors, plant the seeds in small pots filled with soil, and then transplant them outside when the seedlings are 3-4 inches tall.
