  • Sun & Soil: Choose a full-sun location with rich, well-drained soil.
  • Spacing: Provide 12–24 inches between plants for healthy growth.
  • Watering: Keep soil evenly moist; avoid waterlogging.
  • Harvest: Enjoy ripe ingredients from summer through fall, with steady yields for fresh use or preservation.

This collection includes a variety of heirloom seeds, including jalapeno peppers for heat, juicy tomatoes for sweetness, tomatillos for tanginess, onions for a savory base, and cilantro for a burst of herbaceous freshness.

Tomatillos, tomatoes and salsa

Salsa Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 4 medium tomatoes, chopped
  • 4 tomatillos, husks removed and chopped
  • 1/2 large onion, chopped
  • 1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup fresh cilantro leaves, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Juice of 1 lime

Instructions:

  1. In a blender or food processor, combine the chopped tomatoes, tomatillos, onion, jalapeno pepper, cilantro, salt, and lime juice.
  2. Pulse the ingredients until the salsa reaches your desired consistency. If you prefer a chunkier salsa, pulse it less; if you like a smoother salsa, pulse it more.
  3. Taste the salsa and adjust the seasoning as needed, adding more salt or lime juice if desired.
  4. Transfer the salsa to a bowl and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.
