Common Evening Primrose is an easy to grow native wildflower, perfect for that corner of your outdoor garden that is giving you trouble. It is a useful choice for the survival garden as an edible plant, medicinal herb, and beneficial native wildflower.
Not to be confused with the pink perennial evening primrose (pinkladies) that grow low to the ground, this biennial plant sends up a tall spike of yellow flowers that fully open in the evening and emit a sweet fragrance. In addition to being a reliable source of food for many bee, butterfly, bird, hummingbird, and night pollinator species, it is also the host plant for the Primrose moth.
- North American Native Wildflower - Common Evening primrose (Oenothera biennis) is a biennial forb with a range from southern Florida and Texas to Canada. This adaptable wildflower has a reputation as a weed because it grows in poor soils and many conditions. Named for its fragrant yellow flowers that unfurl shortly before sunset, this hardy plant self-seeds easily and will come back year after year.
- Versatile Uses - All parts of the Common Evening Primrose plant were traditionally used by Native American tribes for food and medicinal purposes. The roots, shoots, leaves, and seeds are all edible. As a medicinal herb, Evening Primrose is often used to in women's health, skin care, and as an anti-inflammatory. The majority of our seeds are sourced in the United States, with a few exceptions when the seed is difficult to source domestically. Whenever we do have to source outside of the US, we ensure our seeds are safe to grow, non-GMO varieties that meet our standards for germination and reliability.

No, we do not pre-treat our farmer seeds. All of our garden seeds for sale are untreated, open-pollinated, non-GMO, and heirloom varieties. They are kept in temperature-controlled cooler storage until they are packed and shipped to keep them pest and disease-free.

The seeds in our collections are specifically chosen from varieties that can be successfully grown from Zone 3 to Zone 10 USDA Hardiness Zones.
