What Makes Survival Garden Seeds Different - non-GMO heirloom seeds

Mikado Red California Poppy Seeds from Survival Garden Seeds produce vibrant, sun-loving blooms with rich red-orange petals that bring bold color to gardens and natural landscapes. Each saucer-shaped flower features four silky petals that open in sunlight and gently close at night or during cloudy weather, creating a dynamic display throughout the day.

Native to North America, Mikado California Poppies are exceptionally drought and heat tolerant, thriving in poor or sandy soils where many other flowers struggle. They are especially effective in mass plantings, meadows, and wildflower gardens, where their vivid color creates sweeping, eye-catching displays.

Depending on climate, Mikado poppies can be grown as a short-lived perennial in warm regions or as a self-seeding annual in areas with winter frost. Their pollen-rich blooms attract bees, butterflies, and other beneficial pollinators, making them a valuable addition to wildlife-friendly landscapes.

Bold Color for Low-Maintenance Plantings:

  • Scarlet to red-orange saucer-shaped flowers
  • Blooms open in sun and close at night
  • Best visual impact in mass plantings
  • Thrives in dry, well-drained soils

Why Customers Love Mikado Red California Poppies:

  • Native wildflower adapted to North American climates
  • Exceptional drought and heat tolerance
  • Easy to grow with minimal care
  • Ideal for meadows, borders, and wildflower mixes
  • Attracts bees, butterflies, and pollinators
  • Annual or perennial depending on climate

How to Use / How to Grow:
Direct sow Mikado California poppy seeds outdoors after the danger of frost has passed, or in fall for mild-winter regions. Press seeds lightly into the soil without covering, as light supports germination. Plant in full sun and well-drained soil. Once established, plants require very little water. Allow flowers to go to seed for natural reseeding and recurring displays.
