What Makes Survival Garden Seeds Different - non-GMO heirloom seeds

Red Burgundy Okra Seeds from Survival Garden Seeds produce a visually striking and highly productive heirloom okra variety prized for both beauty and flavor. This award-winning cultivar, an All-American Selections winner in 1988, features tall 5-foot plants with rich green leaves, deep burgundy stems, and creamy yellow flowers that stand out in any vegetable garden.

The vivid burgundy pods add dramatic color to the harvest basket and remain tender when picked at 5–6 inches long. When cooked, the pods turn green while maintaining their smooth texture and mild okra flavor. This makes Red Burgundy Okra a favorite for frying, pickling, gumbo, and other stews where okra adds thickness and body.

Well suited for warm-season gardens, Red Burgundy Okra thrives in full sun and well-drained soil. Its combination of ornamental appeal and dependable yields makes it an excellent choice for gardeners who want a productive vegetable that also enhances garden aesthetics.

Bold Color with Reliable Performance:

  • Tall plants reaching up to 5 feet

How to Use / How to Grow:
Okra seeds benefit from soaking and/or scarification before planting to improve germination. Lightly nick, scratch, or sand the seed coat, or soak seeds in warm water prior to sowing. Plant seeds in full sun after soil temperatures have warmed. Space plants adequately to support their tall growth. Harvest pods frequently at 5–6 inches long for best tenderness and continued production.
