Why Grow Ruby Red Rhubarb Swiss Chard

  • Deep red stems paired with rich green leaves for bold garden color
  • Mild flavor suitable for salads, sautés, soups, and cooked dishes
  • Cut-and-come-again habit ensures repeat harvests for months
  • Reliable growth in cool weather with good tolerance to summer heat
  • Compact plants suited for containers, raised beds, and small spaces
  • Open-pollinated, non-GMO heirloom seeds selected for color and resilience

How to Grow
Direct sow once soil can be worked, or start indoors to transplant for an earlier harvest. Cover seeds lightly and keep soil evenly moist. Germination usually occurs in 7–14 days at 50–85°F. Grow in full sun to partial shade with well-drained soil. Harvest young leaves early for tender greens, or allow plants to mature in 55–65 days for larger, more robust leaves. Regular harvesting encourages steady regrowth throughout the season.

Harvest & Use
Baby leaves bring crisp texture to salads, while mature leaves and stems offer rich flavor for cooking. The vibrant red stems add visual appeal to dishes and pair well with other leafy greens such as kale and spinach.
