You can also plant broccoli in the fall about 85-100 days before the first expected frost date in your area. This timing will allow the plants to mature and produce heads before the weather gets too cold.
If you choose to start seeds indoors, sow the seeds about ¼ inch deep. Keep the soil moist and warm (around 70°F) until the seeds germinate. Once the seedlings have 2-3 true leaves, they can be transplanted into the garden.
If you choose to sow the seeds directly outdoors, sow the seeds about ¼ inch deep and cover lightly with soil. Keep the soil moist until the seeds germinate and the seedlings are well-established.
