Bulk Oat Seeds (Avena sativa) from Survival Garden Seeds are offered in convenient 2 lb packages for gardeners, homesteaders, and growers who need larger quantities than a standard seed packet. These versatile annual oats are valued for their rapid growth, adaptability, and wide range of practical uses—from soil improvement and animal feed to sprouting and human food production.
Oats are an excellent cool-season cover crop, quickly forming a dense stand that suppresses weeds, protects soil from erosion, and adds organic matter when incorporated back into the ground. Their fibrous root system improves soil structure, making them ideal for garden beds, fields, orchards, and rotational planting systems.
Beyond cover cropping, Avena sativa oats are widely used as forage and fodder. They provide nutritious feed for poultry, horses, cattle, deer, and other livestock. The seeds can also be sprouted indoors as cat grass or grown as microgreens for a fast source of fresh greens. When allowed to mature, oats produce grain that can be processed into oat groats or oatmeal, a nutrient-rich whole grain commonly chosen by those with gluten sensitivity.
Bulk quantities make these oat seeds especially well-suited for pasture mixes, wildlife food plots, homestead food security, and repeated indoor or outdoor plantings.

How to Use / How to Grow:
Direct sow oat seeds outdoors in prepared soil in full sun, lightly covering seeds after planting. Keep soil moist during germination and early growth. Oats grow well in cool to moderate temperatures and can be planted in spring or late summer for fall cover cropping. For indoor use, sow seeds densely in shallow containers for cat grass or microgreens and keep evenly watered. For soil improvement, cut plants before seed set and allow the plant matter to decompose.
