    Direct sow after the snow melts. Plant in raked or roto-tilled ground. Or Broadcast seeds and tamp into well-draining soil. Needs semi-wet conditions. Till under at any stage after flowering has begun for green manure, or harvest when most of the seeds have turned golden tan for great harvest.

    After harvesting grain, set aside seed for next year. Dry in paper bags or on a tray for 3-4 weeks to make sure the seed is thoroughly dry. Label and store in a cool dry place.
