INTRODUCING RHUBARB SEEDS
Rhubarb has been cultivated for its medicinal properties for a long time. Later, it became a culinary favorite, especially in sweet dishes where its tartness is combined with sugar. Rhubarb is best suited for USDA hardiness zones 3 to 8, where it can be a lasting fixture in the garden for a decade or more.
HOW TO GROW RHUBARB
Soak seeds for a couple of hours before planting to improve germination rates. Start rhubarb seeds indoors in early spring 8-10 weeks before the last frost, or plant them directly in the garden in late fall for germination the following spring. Plant seeds 1/4 inch deep and keep moist until they germinate, which can take 14-21 days. Transplant young plants outdoors, spacing them 3 to 4 feet apart. Place them in a location with plenty of sunlight.
MAINTAINING RHUBARB PLANTS
Rhubarb plant requires consistent moisture, particularly during the growing season. They also benefit from a generous application of compost each spring to promote healthy growth. In the first year, avoid harvesting the stalks as your plant needs time to establish properly. From the second year onward, harvest judiciously to ensure the plant remains vigorous.
With Survival Garden Seeds' rhubarb seeds, you can grow your own rhubarb. This is the economical way to enjoy this springtime treat all year round when you freeze or can your harvest for off-season use. Rhubarb's tart stalks are a springtime favorite, delicious in many tasty desserts.
